ECTFE / Halar® Compression Molding

ECTFE / Halar® Compression Molding

ECTFE (ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene) is a partially fluorinated, semi-crystalline, melt-processible polymer best known by the brand name Halar®.

ECTFE / Halar® Properties

  1. High tensile strength

  2. Ductile, welded corner seams will flatten before breaking

  3. Extraordinarily high impact strength at temperatures from -100 °F to +300 °F

  4. Resists permeation by chemicals in the pH 0-14 range, suitable for wetted parts

  5. Permeation resistance to chlorine gas, oxygen and carbon dioxide 10-100 times better than PTFE

  6. Excellent chemical resistance over a wide temperature range

  7. Resists semiconductor process chemicals

  8. Resists strong polar solvents such as DMF and NMP

  9. Ultrapure, very low extractable and leaching levels for demanding semiconductor applications

  10. Low outgassing

  11. Exceptionally smooth surface

  12. Easier to fabricate than most fluoropolymers, can be welded, machined, thermoformed and bonded

  13. Easy to fabricate with conventional welding equipment, with extremely strong welds

  14. Very good sliding properties

  15. High density

  16. Good insulation properties

  17. Very good weather resistance

  18. Food safe

  19. Self-extinguishing

  20. Approved and listed to the FM Global 4910 Clean Room Fire Safety Protocol as a fire-safe material for clean-room equipment

  21. The cost of fire-safe tools can be easily offset by eliminating the purchase and installation costs of fixed fire-suppression equipment

  22. Limited protection against stress cracking above 284 °F

ECTFE / Halar® Applications

  1. Chemical processing industry (CPI) applications

  2. High-purity semiconductor process tanks, liners and components

  3. Linings for ultrapure water systems in the semiconductor industry

  4. Exhaust systems

  5. Machine building industry applications

  6. Pharmaceutical applications

  7. Fluid-handling systems

  8. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)

  9. Fire-safe components

  10. Chemical storage

Compression-molded ECTFE / Halar® Parts

  1. Wafer-cleaning equipment parts

  2. Wet etching equipment parts

  3. Wafer carriers for chemical or water wash

  4. DI water systems

  5. Parts that come into contact with aggressive chemicals

  6. Tank linings

  7. Filtration systems

  8. Flanges

  9. Fittings

  10. Centrifuge parts
